Sources: OU and Nebraska Rivalry Set To Reignite

Posted: Updated:
NORMAN, Oklahoma -

One of the biggest rivalries in college football may be coming back to life. Sources with News 9 and News on 6 Sports say OU and Nebraska have committed to playing each other in a home-and-home series beginning in Norman in 2021. The following year, the Sooners would travel to Lincoln, Neb. for a match-up in ‘22. As of right now, there is no signed contract and the agreement is considered "in principle."

Nicknamed the "Game of the Century" the rivalry between the two schools began in Norman in 1971. The Cornhuskers won that game 35-31. The last time the two teams played each other was in 2010 when they met in the Big 12 Conference Championship. OU won 23-20. Nebraska left the Big 12 Conference that year and now competes in the Big 10. Overall, the Sooners lead the series 45-38, with three ties between them.

The revitalized match-up is set to begin on the game's 50th anniversary.
