OU Women's Basketball Wins Exhibition Opener; Cloman's Career Over

Posted: Updated:

University of Oklahoma redshirt-junior forward Lyndsey Cloman has ended her basketball career, head coach Sherri Coale said following Thursday's 118-53 exhibition victory over Oklahoma Christian.

"Her back issue continues to worsen and so she will not be playing," Coale said. "She's going to stay with the team, she'll travel with us, she'll be a part of everything that we do. But for Lindsey's future -- she's 21 years old -- she's got a bad back and we would like for her to live a healthy life. It was a very tough decision for Lyndsey but probably the right one. I think everybody agrees with that."

Cloman averaged 3.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 50 games as a Sooner. As a freshman, Cloman was part of a team that advanced to a Final Four played in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Cloman missed last season after tearing her ACL in OU's first exhibition game.

As far as the game, OU had little trouble dispensing of Oklahoma Christian 118-53 Thursday at Lloyd Noble Center in the Sooners' opening exhibition game of the season.

Five Sooners scored in double-figures led by Nicole Griffin who went 8 for 9 from the field and 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Morgan Hook added 18 points, nine assists and four rebounds while Portia Durrett had 16 points and six rebounds.

Up 12-8 early in the first half, Oklahoma went on a 20-0 run to take a 32-8 lead after a layup by Durrett, one of seven Sooners to score during the run.

Oklahoma went into the half up 51-23 led by Griffin's 13 points on perfect 5 for 5 shooting from the field and 3 for 3 from the stripe. In the first half, OU shot 59.5 percent to the Eagles' 22.6 percent.

OU continued to pull away in the second half, hitting the 100-point mark with seven minutes still left in the game as a 22-4 run pushed OU's lead to 101-42.

The Sooners shot 12 of 30 from the 3-point line and 22 of 28 from the free throw line.
