An Oklahoma City police officer shot a man who tried to run from police after leading them on a car chase through southwest Oklahoma City late Sunday night.

According to OKCPD Capt. Dexter Nelson, an officer tried to pull over a man driving erratically near S.W. 59th Street and S. Agnew Avenue. Police say instead of stopping, the 18-year-old driver sped away, and the officer pursued him.

At one point, the suspect stopped the car, jumped out, and began to run. Police say during the foot chase, the suspect pulled out a gun but didn't fire. Officers ordered him to stop and drop the gun, but the suspect ignored their commands.

An officer fired one shot, hitting the suspect. The 18 year old was taken to a hospital. He's in critical condition. Police say his name has not been released because he has used several aliases in the past, and they are trying to establish his true identity. The suspect faces several charges, including attempting to elude police.

Officer John Baker is the 10-year veteran who shot the suspect. He's been placed on routine administrative leave while the department investigates the shooting.

Two other suspects inside the vehicle also jumped out and ran, but they were quickly caught. One was released and will not face any charges. The other suspect, 17-year-old Raphael Zermeno, Jr., was arrested because he had several outstanding felony warrants.
