Driver Arrested After 3-Vehicle Accident In NW OKC

Posted: Updated:

Emergency crews responded to an accident involving an 18-wheeler and two other vehicles in northwest Oklahoma City, Sunday afternoon.

It happened at about 2 p.m. in the area of N.W. 16th Street and MacArthur.

Police say a vehicle pulled out in front a semi, which in turn swerved striking a pickup truck. The pickup truck was pinned against a tree by the semi. A female victim was trapped inside the pickup for nearly three hours while crews carefully worked to free her from the wreckage.

The driver of the vehicle that failed to yield to the semi was arrested for not having a driver's license.

News 9 is told the woman suffered severe injuries to her legs. She was taken to a local hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.

Officials stressed the difficulty of the extrication process, and discouraged drivers from entering the area while they were freeing the woman.

Hazmat and EMSA crews were also called to the scene. Crews say about 100 gallons of diesel leaked in the area where the extrication operations were going on.

Police say other charges could be filed in this case.
