An Amber Alert issued out of Missouri was canceled Wednesday after the Missouri Highway Patrol located the suspect and a missing girl.

Police say 45-year-old Jeffrey Shelton, a register sex offender, abducted 5-year-old Abigail Berthoff from a home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

It's not clear how the two are connected.

Missouri Highway Patrol announced around 2 p.m. the two had been found. The two were located about 10 miles south of Poplar Bluff by a police officer. Shelton was taken into police custody while Abigail was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Sex Offender Registry, Shelton was convicted in 1990 of kidnapping, rape, attempted kidnapping and two counts of sodomy in Fort Hood, Texas.

He also has family in Oklahoma, so investigators issued the Amber Alert in Oklahoma, as well.
