Hearing Postponed As OKC-Based Hobby Lobby Challenges Health Care Mandate

The owners of Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby will wait to head back to court as they sue the federal government over the Health Care Reform Act, and a mandate concerning birth control.

According to an attorney representing the company, Hobby Lobby is the largest and only non-Catholic owned business to file a lawsuit against the Health Care Reform Act. The company is challenging the part of the new law that requires businesses to provide employee insurance that covers birth control, including the morning-after pill.

The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma alleges the government is forcing the Green family to "violate their deeply-held religious beliefs" by "forcing them to provide health insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs."

The hearing was originally scheduled for Wednesday morning, but was postponed and rescheduled for November 1. The company is requesting a preliminary injunction that would
