TPD Officer Accused Of Stealing From Hispanics In Court For Preliminary Hearing

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa Police officer accused of stealing money during traffic stops was back in court Monday.

This was the second day of a preliminary hearing for Officer Marvin Blades, Jr.

The District Attorney said witness testimony shows, over the course of several months, Blades stopped several Hispanic drivers, took money from their wallets, and then let them go.

Blades is charged with five counts of second degree robbery.

But at today's hearing, his attorney argued that, because Blades didn't use force or threaten force, it should not be considered robbery.

"At best, at best, for larceny. We're still asserting innocence, but we think it, at best, larceny. I think the case law in Oklahoma is very clear," said defense attorney James Linger.

Blades was arrested in August after he pulled over an undercover OBN officer, who said Blades took $600 from his wallet.

The judge is expected to decide Tuesday if Blades will go to trial.
