OKLAHOMA CITY -

A man has been arrested following an officer-involved shooting in southeast Oklahoma City Thursday night.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5300 block of Huddleston Drive, which is near 59th and Sunnylane Road.

Police say officers were in that area late Thursday night on patrol because there have been a high number of burglaries and robberies. That's when they saw a group of men huddled near a car.

When officers tried talking to these men, they could smell marijuana, and one of the men took off running into the neighborhood.

One officer chased after the man, later identified as 19-year-old Solomon Hall. At some point during that chase, Hall pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot at the officer.

The officer pulled his gun out and fired one shot back. Eventually Hall was caught, and no one was hit by this gunfire.

"We don't know at this time why he ran. Again the officers were in the area because of a high number of robberies that have occurred in the area. Basically they were doing a voluntary contact on a group of individuals that were surrounding a car," Captain Dexter Nelson said.

News 9 spoke to one young man who lives in that neighborhood. He says none of this surprised him.

"Not really, no. It just happens. This neighborhood has gotten bad. Real bad," Zack Simons said.

Neighbors did say it is nice to see police beefing up patrols in those neighborhoods.

Hall, the suspect, has been taken into custody on charges of pointing a firearm and reckless conduct with a firearm. He was the only one arrested in the case.

In November, 2011, Hall was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail for pointing a gun at another person. According to OSCN, that case is still pending in the courts.

The officer who fired the gun is on leave, which is something that's routine when an officer discharges his gun.
