Survivors of the Japanese tsunami pay a special visit to Tulsa.

The disaster killed nearly 20,000 people last March.

Monday night, dozens of Japanese students and their teacher spoke at All Souls Unitarian Church about surviving the disaster.

They also talked about the ongoing recovery efforts and how America has helped Japan.

One student said they appreciate the friendship the U.S. has shown them.

"He said, up until now, he's never experienced anything like this. But at the time he thought that he might die. So, it's something he'll remember for the rest of his life," Tetsuro Kobayashi said, through a translator.

The group will speak at Booker T. Washington High School Tuesday.

The school was actually hosting several Japanse students when the disaster happened.
