The University of Oklahoma soccer team (5-7-4, 1-2-2 Big 12) recorded its first Big 12 victory of the season Friday night with a 1-0 win over Kansas (8-5-2, 2-3) at John Crain Field.

OU's Renae Cuellar scored her 10th goal of the season in the 23rd minute and Kelsey Devonshire recorded her 16th shutout of her career.

"I thought overall we put together a complete game, in terms of 90 minutes of good performance," OU head coach Matt Potter said. "We managed the game better than we have over the course of the season, and we did the hard part by going a goal up against Kansas, a very good team. I'm really pleased for the group."

Cuellar put the Sooners on the board at 22:25 off a bobbled ball within the penalty box. The ball was kicked around before it landed at Cuellar's feet, where she took a quick hit and shot it into the top left corner from about 12 yards out for the advantage.

"Renae's goal was of the highest class, and that was the difference in the game." Potter said. "One piece of brilliance."

Kansas took 14 shots, but only three on goal -- all in the second half -- that were saved by Devonshire, as Oklahoma's defense stifled the Jayhawks' offense.

"I thought the defense was superb tonight," Potter said. "A lot of the good work came from the players in front of the defensemen, and they allowed good things to happen."

OU plays its home finale Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. against TCU at John Crain Field. The 2012 seniors will be honored prior to the game, which will be televised live by Sooner Sports TV and air on FS Southwest.
