OKLAHOMA CITY -

Friday is the deadline for Oklahomans to register to vote for the November general election.

Oklahomans can download a registration form online at www.elections.ok.gov and mail it to their county election board, stop by a tag agency or visit an election board office in person.

In the past, the Oklahoma County Election Board stayed open until midnight on deadline day, but the office says there were never enough people to justify staying open that late. This year, the doors will lock at 6 p.m. Friday.

"Other counties will have … various opening and closing hours," Secretary Doug Sanderson with the Oklahoma County Election Board said.

Officials say if you are registered but have missed two federal election cycles, it is possible your registration may have been purged.

"Certainly, if you haven't voted in the last eight years, you might be concerned about it," Sanderson said.

To make sure you are still up to date, officials say contact your county election board or visit www.elections.ok.gov and click on the polling place locator link.

The board is stressing the importance of double-checking your polling location because some precincts changed after the 2010 census. Also new this year, you must have a valid Oklahoma, Federal, or Indian Tribe ID to cast your vote.
