High school students in Midwest City are losing their hair to gain some cash for a good cause.

Dozens of students from Carl Albert High School took time after class Tuesday to experience a lesson of compassion and charity benefiting some young people facing life-threatening ordeals.

"I was diagnosed when I was 11 … my biggest [concern] was, I can't go to school," cancer survivor Trevor Duhon said.

Now, at the age of 22, Duhon is still battling cancer but his ammunition is more than just chemotherapy. It's now an opportunity, like the event on Tuesday, to share his struggle and raise money.

"What all this money does is help [in] fund raising the process of finding new treatments and new studies to help other people out," Duhon said.

Nearly 30 students went under the razor to show support.

"We've been working towards this since July … getting the ideas together," Briana Strahorn, event organizer and high school senior said.

Strahorn is the one student with the driving force behind the event. The fundraiser is her senior class project. All the money raised will go directly to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity for children.

"I'm really excited to be a part of the St. Baldrick's movement," Strahorn said. "I love it."

Audriana Barnhill is a Homecoming Queen candidate for Carl Albert High School this year. She will be bald on her big day but she doesn't mind.

"I'm not going to wear a wig because I feel that defeats the purpose," Barnhill said.

Statistics show 20 percent of children diagnosed with cancer will die, but with each bald head and dollar raised, the students know their support will make an impact and hope it will inspire others. The students raised more than $7,600 for children with cancer on Tuesday.

According to OU Medical Center, cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death for children.
