When you heard today that the state was delaying the A-F report cards on the 1,750 public school across the state, I'll bet you thought "what are they afraid of?"

Are the grades that bad?

A lot of Superintendents say the grading scale and formula are all wrong.

You could take that with a grain of salt if it were just the struggling districts whining about the system, but the Superintendents from most of the higher performing districts in the state are standing shoulder to shoulder with them, saying the formula drags down the districts grade, and the grading scale itself is higher than what most parents understand an A, B, C, D or F to be.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the A-F system.

I know it brings more accountability to the education system, AND just as importantly it tells parents, often the biggest problem, your kid's school isn't getting it done, you need to step it up at home and get involved at school.

But the A-F system has to be fair, and a formula that makes since on paper might not in reality.

So if it takes a couple of weeks delay and a little more tweaking to get it right, so be it.
