A burglar broke into a metro man's apartment and took a bunch of his prized possessions, but none more important than an urn containing his late mother's ashes.

Just five months after Ian O'Daniel lost his mother to cancer, a thief stole a rose gold urn with his mother's ashes inside.

When thieves broke into O'Daniel's Boardwalk Apartment he wasn't unpacked yet. Three weeks after he signed his lease, he came home to a ransacked apartment.

"Every night when I come home here the first thing I do is I walk up very slowly thinking the door might be open again," O'Daniel said.

On the police report he filed thousands of dollars' worth of personal items as stolen. O'Daniel says the 40 inch flat screen, the Wii game system and September's rent can be replaced. His mother's ashes he lists as priceless. Also missing is a solid silver necklace with his mother's thumbprint.

"On days when I woke up missing her then I would be able to wear that necklace and know she is right there with me," he said.

The necklace is Mary Ann Osborne's birthdate and the day she lost her battle to multiple myeloma. It was worth about $400. The rose gold urn cost $200.

"My mom was the love of my life, the woman in my life, and I just want to see those things back," he said.

O'Daniel filed a police report but says he is praying for the thief, the safe return of his things and he simply wants to move since he doesn't feel safe.

Boardwalk's policy is a resident can break their lease if they pay one month's rent and give 30 days' notice.
