OKLAHOMA CITY -

A man police say imagined he was being chased by a group of suspects slipped out of his handcuffs and hid in the ceiling of an office at the Oklahoma County jail.

On October 1, a man called police and claimed he was being chased and shot at by several suspects in the area of Interstate 44 and S.W. 29th Street. An officer responded and found 28-year-old Stanley Allen White hiding at Naughty And Nice, an adult retail store.

Police say White was out of breath, had difficulty speaking, and appeared exhausted. According to the police report, White told the officer that he'd been chased by "a hundred" black subjects who "were shooting at him." White then claimed the people chasing him ran into a fire station on S.W. 29th Street and Independence, and took everyone inside hostage.

White then went onto say that he'd used a manhole cover as a bulletproof vest to protect himself. The officer walked outside and found a manhole cover lying in the street. The officer then stated in the report he assured White he was not in any danger, and he placed the man in the backseat of his patrol car for his own safety.

The officer continued questioning White, asking him how the "chase" began. White claimed the unknown subjects had broken into his house earlier that evening in the 3100 block of S. Woodward. White said he climbed onto his roof and began throwing rocks at the people to hold them off before escaping and running for help.

The officer soon learned White's neighbor had called police, saying White had climbed onto his roof and thrown rocks at her car, damaging it. Police then arrested White for destruction of property.

After arriving at the Oklahoma County jail, the officer handcuffed White to a bench outside an office while he completed the booking process. When the officer returned, White was missing. He'd managed to slip out of his handcuffs.

Police searched the area, and soon noticed a ceiling tile was loose in the captain's office. Several minutes later, they noticed the ceiling tiles above the city desk office shaking. Officers found White hiding on top of the rafters about 10 feet above the suspended ceiling. Police managed to talk him down and take him back into custody.

White was then booked into jail for attempting to escape from arrest or detention.
