A woman driving on Interstate 35 near Interstate 40 lost control of her car during rush hour Monday morning and crashed into a canal that feeds the Oklahoma River.
Around 7:30 a.m., the woman was driving south on I-35 just south of I-40 when she veered off the highway and crashed into the canal near downtown Oklahoma City. The water there is 10 to 12 feet deep.
Police and firefighters say she managed to get out of the car and was waiting for them on the bank when they arrived.
Paramedics examined the woman, but she appeared to be okay and not seriously injured. It's not known why she left the highway.
Emergency crews are still on the scene, trying to figure out how to pull the submerged car out of the river.
