OKLAHOMA CITY -
Gov. Mary
Fallin says the federal government has approved wildfire aid for Cleveland
County.
But the
governor also said Thursday that additional disaster aid for wildfire victims
in Payne and Oklahoma counties has again been denied. Federal assistance was
previously approved for Creek County.
Wildfires
damaged nearly 300 homes in Cleveland, Oklahoma and Payne counties in August.
At least 270 homes were destroyed, and about 85 percent of the homes damaged or
destroyed were uninsured.
Fallin sought federal aid to
provide individual assistance for wildfire victims in all four of the affected counties.
But the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied assistance to three.
The governor appealed, and the
government reversed its ruling on Cleveland County, where wildfire victims are
now eligible for government assistance for housing repairs or temporary
housing.
