WARR ACRES, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office has dropped a felony sex charge originally filed against church elder Floyd "Beef" Chambers of the Cherokee Hills Church of Christ in Warr Acres.

Chambers was wrongfully arrested, booked into jail and charged for a crime he did not commit.

In early October of 2011, News 9 first reported on Chambers who was being accused of fondling a 9-year-old female church member. Now, the State of Oklahoma is doing its best to clear Chambers' name after a year of humiliation and heartache.

Innocent until proven guilty is way our justice system works, but all too often it does not exist in the court of public opinion.

"We've been going through a year of agony that we've never experienced before in our family," Chambers said.

In September of 2011, Chambers was charged with indecent or lewd acts with a child under 16. Chambers says the entire experience has been horrifying. Now, the DA's Office is pulling back after realizing the police report was in error. Chambers' attorney, Billy Bock, says there were holes in the accusers' story.

"When a district attorney gets police reports, they're bound to believe that they're true and file charges," Bock said. "[The charges] are only as good as the reports that they're given."

Through all of the pain, Chambers says he is standing strong thanks to his faith in God and support of true friends.

"I don't have any ill will toward the people that accused me," Chambers said. "Frankly, I started praying for them the day I heard about this false accusation."

When Chambers was asked where he found the strength to pray for his accusers and forgive them he said, "[It's] just Christian nature I think. I think everybody that's a true Christian … that's what they would do."

As Chambers continues working to restore his reputation, he is encouraging the public not to assume someone is guilty just because they're accused.

Chambers is thanking everyone who has stood by him during the ordeal. His accusers could not be reached for comment Thursday.

News 9 sought comment from the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office on Thursday, but David Prater was out of town and unavailable for questions.
