Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible late this afternoon and evening across portions of western and northern Oklahoma.

Ample sunshine and increasing amounts of Gulf moisture south and east of two surface boundaries will lead to a moderately unstable atmosphere. An approaching, weak upper-air disturbance late this afternoon will aid in lifting the air near a surface dryline and stationary front, where convergence at the surface will result in scattered thunderstorms. Modest amounts of wind shear, or turning and strengthening winds with height, should be sufficient for a few strong to severe storms.

Storm initiation should occur shortly after peak heating, between 3-6 p.m. across western and northern Oklahoma. The upper-air flow will steer the storms in an east-northeast direction this evening and overnight into central and eastern Oklahoma. The main weather hazards will include half dollar-sized hail and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph.

The rain and thunderstorms will move out of our area and into eastern Oklahoma Wednesday morning with additional storms possible late Wednesday afternoon.
