LeFLORE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A man from Poteau, Oklahoma, was killed after he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle in LeFlore County Saturday morning.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday, on Old Highway 112, about one mile east of Poteau in LeFlore County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2004 Kia driven by 24-year-old Justin Ward was westbound on Old Highway 112 when it ran off the roadway to the left, striking a ditch. The vehicle then hit a power pole and overturned one and half times.

Ward was pinned in the vehicle before being freed by emergency crews. He was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries.

Ward was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the OHP. Troopers listed the cause of the collision as "apparently sleepy" in the collision report.
