OKLAHOMA CITY -

A high allergy alert has been issued in Oklahoma for everyone planning to be outside this weekend.

The Oklahoma Allergy and Asthma Clinic issued the alert, blaming the trees. Doctors say severe symptoms may be expected in pollen sensitive individuals, because cedar elm trees are pollinating right now, typically this time of year.

Ragweed is the instigator of sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes. But in the last five to ten years, they say more Oklahomans have been planting cedar elm trees. They grow fast and pollinate in the fall, causing the situation to be more extreme.

Doctors say people with asthma should also be aware of allergy like symptoms that could lead to tightening of the chest, and loss of breath.
