CREEK COUNTY, Oklahoma -
Two people are dead after a three-vehicle crash on the Turner Turnpike near the Kellyville gate Thursday night.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a driver got on Interstate-44 at the Kellyville gate heading eastbound in the westbound lanes at about 11 p.m.
About a mile down I-44, troopers say he sideswiped a car. OHP said the driver continued traveling the wrong direction on the highway and slammed head-on into a westbound vehicle at mile-marker 215. That driver and the wrong-way driver were killed.
Troopers said a driver in a third vehicle was also injured when he ran into the two crashed vehicles. That driver was taken to a Sapulpa hospital.
OHP closed the westbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike for three hours while troopers investigated and cleaned up after the crash.
Troopers say the wrong-way driver initially was driving in the right direction, but got off the Turner and re-entered the turnpike going in the wrong direction for some unknown reason.
OHP has yet to release the names of those involved in the crash.
