OKLAHOMA CITY -

One day after a 6-year-old North Highland Elementary student was hit by a car, the school's principal is asking for Oklahoma City's help.

Police say the student was hit while he was running across Robinson Avenue, which runs across the front of the school.

Parents say Robinson has long been a hazard, because it is too narrow, and motorists ignore traffic signs.

"We really needed a crossing guard, and we have been complaining about it," Yvonne Weaver said.

Weaver has a grandchild who attends the school.

Late Tuesday, and Oklahoma City School District Spokesperson told News 9 North Highland's principal will formally ask the city to post a crossing guard in front of the school, as well as paint a crosswalk in front of the school on Robinson Avenue.

The city has jurisdiction on the roadway.
