OKLAHOMA CITY -
The results of this year's 3rd
Annual Great Taste of the Fair are in with some wonderfully decadent eats
taking home the top honors.
It's a staple of this time of
year; the end of the summer marked by the beginning of the Oklahoma State Fair
and all of the sights, sounds, smells, and of course tastes of the deliciously
quirky fair food. And not even the rainy weather was enough to keep the judges
from putting their taste buds to the task.
The categories are for ‘Most Unique' and ‘Best Tasting' for
both ‘Sweet' and ‘Savory' fair foods.
‘Most Unique - Savory'
1st Place -
Pork'abella Kabobs (Mushrooms stuffed with smoked gouda,
wrapped in bacon & grilled)- Fire & Ice Concessions.
2nd Place - Quesadilla al
Pastor (Marinated pork) - Ledesma's Concessions.
‘Most Unique - Sweet'
1st Place - Fudge
Puppy (Belgian Waffle, dipped in chocolate, topped with nuts, sprinkles, or
toffee & served with whipped cream)- Sophie's Sidewalk Cafe'
2nd Place - Deep-Fried Bacon
Brownie - Layne Concessions
‘Best Tasting - Savory'
1st Place - Juicy Lucy Burger
- Burger and Chili Shack
2nd Place – Hand-Breaded
Chicken Tenders - Ragin' Cajun
‘Best Tasting - Sweet'
1st Place - Oklahoma Cabernet
Chocolate Souffle' - Coco Flow – (Oklahoma Vendor)
2nd Place - Carmel Apple Pie
Fancy Caramel Apple (Caramel Apple rolled in sugar, cinnamon and graham
crackers then drizzled with white chocolate) - Rodney and Lisa, LTD. – (Oklahoma
Vendor)
Eight judges took part in the
contest this year: News 9's Lauren Nelson, Phil Inzinga of BOB FM, Judy
Brotton for Distinctly Oklahoma, Dave Cathey with The Oklahoman, Phil
Cross from FOX 25, Carly Rae for JAKE FM, Dave Morris with NewsOK.com
and Darvin Ward was the wild card judge.
There
were 17 entries in this year's Great Taste of the Fair and the judges said that
it was the toughest contest they have yet to judge.
