The OSU women's cross country team moved up two spots to No. 22 and the men's team stayed at No. 2, according to the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll.

The Cowgirls began the season at No. 24, but a strong performance at the Hurricane Festival helped move them up two spots in the poll.

"We've raced a good chunk of our women's team so they moved up in the polls," said OSU head coach Dave Smith. "I think we're pretty good, and we're starting to get recognized so we'll keep climbing as the weeks go on."

The Cowboys earned two first-place votes but still remain behind last year's national champion and current No. 1, Wisconsin.

Both teams are coming off strong performances at the Hurricane Festival in Tulsa, Okla., on September 1. The

Cowboys took the top seven spots and finished the dual meet portion, 4-0. Redshirt junior Taylor Monaghan finished in first place with a time of 20:35. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls finished the dual portion 5-0, and junior Victoria Hanna placed fourth overall with a time of 11:19.

Both teams return to action September 29 when they compete in the Cowboy Jamboree, held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater.
