OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma County deputies have arrested a man who was shot at the same Spencer bar at which 23-year-old Jean-Ciar Pierce was shot and killed.

Pierce was shot in the early-morning hours of August 25 at Shaker's Sports Bar near N.E. 23rd Street and Spencer Road. He died while trying to drive away from the scene.

That same day, staff at Midwest City Hospital contacted police, saying a man who'd been shot in his right foot had come to the hospital for treatment. Police interviewed the man, identified as 20-year-old Dezaire Amerson, after he was released from the hospital.

Investigators said Amerson gave them two statements, both untrue. Because they did not have a reason to arrest him, police released Amerson.

Investigators then reviewed surveillance video taken by security cameras near the bar. They said the suspect in the video ran with a limp, and appeared to be wearing the same clothing Amerson wore during his interview with police.

Deputies also noticed in the video that the suspect placed something under a parked car. When they went to retrieve the item, they discovered it was a .38 caliber gun. Three rounds had been fired from the weapon.

Investigators interviewed Amerson again, and they said this time he admitted to being the man on the tape, and to firing three shots from the gun. He said he shot at someone chasing him, and that person shot him in the foot.

Deputies traced the gun, and discovered it was reported stolen in Albuquerque.

Deputies arrested Amerson on complaints of possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of stolen property, and obstruction of justice.

Amerson has not been identified as a suspect in Pierce's death.
