TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa Zoo released the names of the zoo's newest additions Monday morning. After nearly 2,000 votes on its web site, the newest jaguar cubs are now known as Kabah and Chac.

Tulsa Zoo officials say Kabah means strong hand and Chac means controller of rain and thunder.

The cubs' names were chosen via a survey on www.tulsazoo.org.

Kabah and Chac were born April 22nd and the first ever jaguars to be born at the Tulsa Zoo.

Across the U.S. there are only 43 jaguars currently residing in accredited zoos.

Jaguars are classified as "near threatened" due to their declining numbers.

Both are on exhibit at the zoo's Tropical American Rainforest and both are expected to remain at the Tulsa Zoo until they reach 2 years of age.

Then both Kabah and Chac could be transferred to another zoo by the Species Survival Plan, which is working to maintain the jaguar population in accredited American zoos.
