Two Killed, Four Injured In Wrong-Way Crash In Logan County

A New Mexico man and a Ponca City woman were killed and four others were injured, one critically in a wrong-way, four-vehicle collision on Interstate 35 in Logan County early Saturday.

It happened just after 2 a.m. Saturday, in the northbound lanes of I-35 at Mile Marker 155.

A 2012 Dodge Charger driven by 33-year-old Curtis Garcia from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was going south in the northbound lanes of I-35, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol collision report. Troopers say the Charger struck the driver side of a 2005 GMC pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Shane Green of Stillwater.

It then struck a 2003 Ford Windstar van driven by 36-year-old Claudia Nacianceno of Granite Falls, Minnesota, before going into a broad slide. A 2002 Honda Accord driven by 29-year-old Tosha Hanifen of Ponca City then struck the passenger side of the Dodge Charger.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The OHP says Hanifen also was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A passenger in her car, 23-year-old Aaron Hollins of Watonga, was flown by medical helicopter to the OU Medical Center in critical condition with head, arm, and leg injuries.

Troopers say Green and a passenger in the GMC pickup truck suffered minor injuries. Both refused medical treatment at the scene.

Claudia Nacianceno was taken to a Guthrie hospital where she was treated and released.

Troopers listed the cause of the collision as "wrong way" in their report.

Garcia's condition at the time of the crash is still under investigation.

The northbound lanes of I-35 were closed shortly after the crash and traffic diverted until the OHP reopened the highway just before 7 a.m.
