An Owasso Police officer had to use his bean bag gun and pepper spray to subdue a man early Tuesday morning during a confrontation inside a convenience store.

Owasso Police Captain Tracy Townsend say it all started in Rogers County, east of Owasso when shortly before 3 a.m., Owasso Police, Rogers County Sheriff's deputies were sent to a report of a crash at 106th Street North and 166th East Avenue.

When deputies and officers arrived they found a car had hit a utility pole.

About that time a neighbor told deputies his home had been burglarized and his pickup truck stolen.

A short time later, an Owasso Police officer spotted the pickup parked in front of the QuikTrip at 116th Street North and U.S. Highway 169.

Captain Townsend say a man and woman in the car ran into the store as the officer approached.

The woman, Kallie Watkins immediately surrendered but Johnny Cook barricaded himself in a QuikTrip restroom stall.

Captain Townsend say there was a brief standoff before Cook came out of the stall waving a syringe and threatening officers.

Police say the officer used his non-lethal bean bag gun and hit Cook in the leg. But it wasn't until the officer used pepper spray that Cook complied and dropped the syringe, surrendering to police.

No one else in the store was injured.

Captain Townsend say Cook was taken to an Owasso hospital because he appeared to be having a reaction to some unknown substance.  He was later transferred to a Tulsa hospital.
