Eighteen-year-old Edward Williams is accused of hitting 78-year-old Vernon Gowdy in the head with a nunchuk, then stabbing him to death.

Prosecutors say Williams told investigators he planned to kill his girlfriend. But when he arrived at her house, she had company. So he went to Gowdy's apartment instead.

Williams then called police and reported the stabbing.

Vernon Gowdy, Gowdy's son, says Williams deserves no mercy.

"Anybody premeditates a crime, they think it out. They beat somebody. They stab somebody 18 times. It's a heinous crime. To me, somebody like that should get the death penalty," Vernon Gowdy said.

Prosecutors say Williams is a continuing threat to society and will prove it to get the death penalty.
