A jury has deadlocked in the trial of a Dewey woman accused of neglecting her toddler who was scalded by hot water in a bathtub.

Danielle Connor was charged with child neglect after her 16-month-old daughter suffered second- and third-degree burns from the bath water. The Examiner-Enterprise reports that jurors told a judge they were "hopelessly" deadlocked after seven hours of deliberations Wednesday.

Connor testified that she left the toddler in the bathtub with the girl's 3-year-old sister as she went into another room to do laundry. She testified that she returned about 10 minutes later after hearing a child scream and found the hot water running.

Connor's attorney says the incident was an accident. But prosecutors say Connor admitted leaving the children unsupervised in the bathtub multiple times.
