Football season is almost here, and that means tailgating season is also on its way.

Before you fire up the grill, there's a place we discovered where they've been satisfying the taste buds of regular customers and gaining national attention for their creations.

For tasty tailgating possibilities, you can't go wrong with Walke Brothers Meat Company near Claremore.

"Every meal should be an event, that's what my grandmother always said, and we try to hold true to that," John Walke said.

At Walke Brothers, there's just about everything to make your next meal an event.

There are dozens of choices, things like ribs, smoked hot wing cheese, jalapeno beef sticks, smoked salmon—you name it.

"Pineapple Bavarian sauerkraut, Swiss cheese with Italian seasoning on it, and pretty much covered the whole thing with bacon," John said of one of his recent recipes.

That's one thing that makes Walke Brothers unique: they're constantly coming up with new creations.

Over the years, the father and son team has won dozens of awards from the Oklahoma-Texas Meat Processors Association.

They won six grand champion and six reserve champion awards just this year.

Also this year, they won a grand champion award at the American Cured Meat Championships for andouille sausage.

"This year was the largest cured meat championship in North America in history," Lyndon Walke said.

All entries were judged based on aroma, flavor, eye appeal, color and texture.

"Feels good, no one can say they're the best in the nation at that, there's no one better," Lyndon said.

So, if you're looking for that award winning andouille sausage, or some specially seasoned, bacon-wrapped, goodness, you can get your ribs and just about everything else on route 66.
