OKLAHOMA CITY -

Police are searching for a driver who fatally struck a woman late Wednesday night in southwest Oklahoma City, but continued driving and later ditched the car.

The accident occurred near S.W. 29th Street and Lee Ave. around 10:15 p.m. According to a witness, 27-year-old Rusti Bates was attempting to cross the street when the driver, who was heading westbound on S.W. 29th, hit her and kept going.

Police say the suspect drove a few blocks away from the scene before abandoning the car and running away. Oklahoma City police used dogs and the Air One helicopter to try to track down the driver, but they were unable to find the suspect.
