Number Of Oklahoma West Nile Virus Cases Begins To Level Off

The Oklahoma State Department of Health said Tuesday that there have been 65 cases of the virus and three deaths due to the virus this year.

The number of new West Nile Virus cases in Oklahoma has increased by just four in the past week and no additional deaths have been recorded.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health said Tuesday that there have been 65 cases of the virus and three deaths due to the virus this year.

The first was confirmed case was in June and there were 61 total cases through last Thursday.

The West Nile virus was first confirmed in Oklahoma in 2002 and the state Department of Health reports a total of 837 cases and 23 deaths since then.

The record number of cases is 107 in 2007 when there were eight deaths attributed to the disease.
