RedHawks Allow Omaha Comeback Again

Posted: Updated:

It was a bad case of déjà vu for the Oklahoma City RedHawks on Tuesday night in Bricktown.

On Monday, the RedHawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead before allowing seven unanswered runs to end the game with a bitter one-run loss. Virtually the same thing occurred again on Tuesday but the result was even worse.

Oklahoma City leapt out to a 5-0 lead before Omaha blitzed the RedHawks, scoring 12-straight runs for a 12-5 victory.

All five RedHawk runs came in the third inning, starting off with a two-run homer by right fielder Brad Snyder. Fernando Martinez followed that up with an RBI ground out to the Omaha first baseman to take a 3-0 lead. Then OKC recorded its second two-run homer of the inning when Mike Hessman cranked one over the left wall.

That was where the scoring ended for Oklahoma City but things hadn't even started for the Storm Chasers. Omaha scored five runs in both the fifth and seventh innings before putting two more on OKC in the eighth for good measure.

The loss was the third straight for Oklahoma City, all against Omaha.

OKC relief pitcher Mark Hamburger was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. RedHawks' starter Rudy Owens gave up five earned runs and five hits in 4.1 innings.

Oklahoma City takes on the Tacoma Rainiers in the first of a four-game series starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. in Tacoma.
