When former associate head coach Joe DeForest left Oklahoma State to join Dana Holgorsen at West Virginia following the 2011 season, it was immediately viewed as a huge loss because of his excellent recruiting reputation and special teams savvy.

OSU has continued to roll along in recruiting since his departure but one of the pressing questions OSU coach Mike Gundy faced during Tuesday's Big 12 Media Day in Dallas was: who will coordinate the Cowboys' special teams in 2012?

The answer: Gundy. At least in the short term.

"I have a pretty good idea -- or we have a pretty good idea -- of what we want to do," Gundy said. "We just haven't finalized it yet."

Gundy said he wanted to make sure everything was finalized before he addresses the matter publicly.

"We don't want to say one thing and change into another," he said.

But one thing is certain, he will run the Cowboys' highly-successful unit when fall camp starts.

DeForest spent 11 years on the staffs of Les Miles and Mike Gundy and developed a dominant kicking game during his time in Stillwater.

Gundy said he will either name a special teams coach or will allocate the units among individual coaches already on staff, but some things will need to be changed up with DeForest now coaching in the Big 12.

"We want to keep everything as close and as similar as it's been over the last seven years," Gundy said. "That's been my philosophy when we've lost coaches. We want to keep things rolling with very little change. Players don't like change; so we try to stay as uniform as possible. Obviously Joe did a great job."
