Oklahoma Music Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student Charged

A Sequoyah Public Schools band and choir teacher faces several charges of rape and sodomy.

Police said Mark Thomas Buchanan, 34, had confessed to his wife that he had slept with the student, after she told him she feared she was pregnant. His wife went straight to the police, and Buchanan was arrested earlier this month.

He was charged Tuesday on four counts of second degree rape, two counts of sodomy with a victim under 16 years old, and one count of indecent exposure.

Buchanan was suspended from his position with Sequoyah Public Schools at the time of his arrest, but, according to the superintendent, has now resigned.

Police said Buchanan had sex with the student in a closet attached to the choir room at a Sequoyah school on four separate occasions, over the last six months.

Buchanan will be arraigned in a Rogers County courtroom on Wednesday morning.
