Oklahoma State running back Joseph Randle was named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award on Friday, which honors the nation's top running back. Randle is one of 52 players that made the list.
He joins Wisconsin's Montee Ball, Nebraska's Rex Burkhead and SMU's Zach Line as the only semifinalists for last year's Doak Walker Award returning this year.
On Wednesday, Randle was chosen by the media as the first-team running back on the preseason All-Big 12 team.
As a sophomore in 2011, Randle carried the ball 208 times for 1,248 yards and added 43 catches for 266 yards. With the departures of quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon to the NFL, his role is only expected to increase this season.
The Cowboys open the season at home on September 1 against Savannah State.
