A Pottawatomie County judge has sentenced a woman convicted of abusing her two stepchildren, and causing the death of her 6-year-old stepdaughter.

A jury found Jennifer Jimenez guilty Wednesday. The judge followed the jury's recommendation and sentenced her to life in prison, plus 25 years, for beating, choking, and force feeding her two children.

Six-year-old Alexis Morris died in the care of Jimenez back in 2009, but her brother and two stepsisters lived to tell their story. The children each testified against Jimenez on Tuesday.

Alexis' biological mother also filed a civil lawsuit against DHS. More than a dozen referrals were made to the agency before Alexis' death.
