Reward Offered For Information About Pit Bull With Throat Cut

Posted: Updated:
BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma -

The Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a person police say cut the throat of a pit bull in Bartlesville.

Bartlesville Police said they responded to a report that a dog had been hit and killed by a car near Adams Boulevard and Bison Road. They then found that the dog's throat had been slit before it was hit by the car.

Police Chief Tom Holland said the dog died from its throat being cut, and not from an impact with a vehicle. He said he suspects someone intentionally slit the dog's throat and left him for dead on the outskirts of Bartlesville, where he wandered into the road and was struck.

"The sheer callousness of this crime is unthinkable," said Cynthia Armstrong, state director of the Human Society of the United States. "To imagine the pain and suffering that this innocent dog endured is enough to make any caring person's stomach turn. We hope our reward helps find the person or persons who committed this despicable act."

The Bartlesville Police Department is investigating it as an animal cruelty case. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Rita Harvey at 918-332-6903.
