The Department of Human Services shuts down an Oklahoma City child development center.

On June 28, DHS issued the emergency order to close Cornerstone Child Development Center located at 7901 N.W. 113th Street in Oklahoma City. According to a notice of the emergency closure, DHS found immediate action was necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of the children in the center's care.

After further investigation, DHS found the director and the staff in charge at Cornerstone were not able to meet and maintain the minimum requirements to operate required by the state.

The notice showed DHS found that the children were left with no supervision in a classroom on June 26, when the owner/director told staff they could leave the facility. The owner/director then passed out in the classroom leaving the classroom unsupervised.

DHS also documented that the center was understaffed on June 25, 26, 27 and 28.

The facility had 10 days to request a hearing to contest the closure. However, the facility's owner did not request that hearing.
