SULPHUR, Oklahoma -

The Murray County District Attorney's Office has filed charges against six people accused of using their positions at a Sulphur nursing home to illegally obtain and sell prescription drugs.

The joint investigation between the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN), Oklahoma Attorney General's Office, Sulphur Police Department and Murray County Sheriff's Office began in January 2012. Investigators said employees of the Callaway Nursing Home would call in prescriptions for Hydrocodone that patients didn't need. Investigators said the suspects would keep some of the drugs for personal use, but sold the bulk of the pills on the street.

OBN said more than 8,400 dosage units of Hydrocodone were diverted by the suspects. Investigators don't believe any patients were deprived of medicine.

"These residents had not been prescribed the Hydrocodone by doctors. There is no evidence that any resident was deprived of their legitimate medications," OBN spokesman Mark Woodward said.

The Murray County District Attorney's Office filed charges of conspiracy to obtain controlled substances by fraud against Callaway Nursing Home Director of Nursing Jackie Alexander, 63, and Assistant Director of Nursing Melanie Kirby, 39. Carrie Billings, 41, Sierra Williams, 23, Mackenzie Digby, 30, and Angela Ford, 33, were also charged.
