Several families were forced out of their beds early Thursday morning when a grassfire came dangerously close to homes in Del City.
Just before 1 a.m., a neighbor reported an outbuilding was on fire near S.E. 10th Street and Sunnylane. The flames quickly spread and soon burned at least four backyards.
Firefighters evacuated an entire block of residents as a precaution while they battled the fire. They extinguished the flames and no homes were damaged, but a fence and two sheds burned.
The fire knocked out power to the area, so OG&E crews spent several hours in the neighborhood trying to restore electricity.
It's not known yet what started the fire, but neighbors reported hearing fireworks just a few minutes before seeing flames.
