The Oklahoma City RedHawks avoided a three-game losing streak Sunday, knocking off the Memphis Redbirds 6-2, after taking a big early lead.
After Brandon Barnes drew a walk to lead off the inning and Jimmy Paredes singled in the following at-bat, Fernando Martinez tripled to right field to score both, taking a 2-0 lead. Two at-bats later, Brett Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Martinez home, pushing the lead to three runs.
Marwin Gonzalez blasted a solo home run in the next at-bat, extending the RedHawks' lead to 4-0.
Memphis responded in the top of the second, with a two-run home run from Eugenio Velez in the second at-bat of the second inning, cutting the lead to two runs.
However, Oklahoma City extended its lead late in the game, thanks to an RBI single from Brad Snyder in the sixth and a sacrifice fly from Barnes in the seventh.
Armano Galarraga (2-1) picked up a win for the outing, giving up just two earned on seven hits and striking out five in his six innings of service. Tyler Lyons (0-3) was credited with a loss for his work, allowing four earned runs on four hits in five innings.
Oklahoma City will attempt to make it back-to-back wins against the Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
