The Central Oklahoma Humane Society is hosting the "Freedom Friends" adoption event on Saturday. Several puppies saved from a puppy mill in McClain County are now available for adoption at an affordable rate.
These "Freedom Friends" were rescued from a puppy mill just outside Dibble, Oklahoma, on March 16.
The McClain County Sheriff's Office got a tip from neighbors hearing dogs barking on a vacant property. After deputies obtained a search warrant, with the help of the Oklahoma State Veterinary Board and Central Oklahoma Humane Society, they started freeing about three dozen puppies.

According to the Humane Society, the puppies were isolated and did not have access to any food or water. They were living on a piece of property in an extremely remote area without any caregiver.
A total of 17 puppies and two adult dogs were trapped inside a small, locked shed, officials said. Several other dogs were found running loose without access to shelter. Some were even trapped inside a small wire pen with only one dog house to share for all of the dogs.
The humane society took the puppies in and worked hard on bringing them back to health during the past few months. However, officials say the dogs had been exposed to a disease called Distemper, likely from the wildlife they encountered while they were living at the isolated property.
Volunteers tended to the dogs' individual needs and placed them in a special quarantine time to ensure that they did not run the risk of spreading the illness to any other dogs.
Now these pooches are available for adoption, officials say they want to find them families who will be understanding of all of the rough times they've been through, and who are willing to work through any medical and emotional issues that they may have due to their rough start to life.
