Jimmy Paredes went 2-4 and stole two bases, and helped the Oklahoma City RedHawks squeeze out their second consecutive victory over the Iowa Cubs, 3-1.
The RedHawks used timely pitching to hold the Cubs to just 1-13 hitting with runners in scoring position. Iowa also stranded 12 runners for the game.
Paredes was the only RedHawks player to gather multiple hits. Oklahoma City was outhit by Iowa, 12 to 8. The Cubs were led by shortstop Matt Tolbert, who went 4-5 for the game and finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
Iowa struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tolbert tripled to right, and scored when the throw to third from Paredes got away from the third baseman.
Oklahoma City rebounded with a run in the sixth inning on a Brett Wallace RBI single that scored Paredes.
The RedHawks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on RBI singles from Landon Powell and Paredes.
From there, it was about RedHawks pitching, as relievers Sergio Perez and Mickey Storey shut out the Cubs over the last four innings on just four hits. Storey pitched the last two and one-third innings for the save.
The series finale will be tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
