The Oklahoma City RedHawks exploded for 10 runs in the first six innings and rode a hit parade to a 10-6 win over the Iowa Cubs.

The RedHawks hit four home runs, two by Mike Hessman, and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Brett Wallace went 4-6 to lead the offensive onslaught for OKC.

Josh Vitters and Diory Hernandez went 2-4 to pace the Cubs offensively.

Neither starting pitcher lasted more than four innings due to the offensive explosion. Oklahoma City scored four runs in the first three innings before the Cubs erupted for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score.

Both team tacked on a run in the fourth before the RedHawks took over the game in the fifth and sixth innings.

Brad Snyder and Brandon Barnes hit back-to-back doubles to kick start the inning. Barnes' double scored Snyder, and when J. B. Shuck walked, Barnes stole third base. Then, with Landon Powell batting, Barnes stole home while Shuck advanced to second. Jimmy Paredes hit an RBI single to score Shuck.

In the sixth, Wallace doubled and Hessman brought him home with his second home run of the evening.

The Cubs tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth to draw to within 10-6. The Cubs then loaded the bases with just one out on three consecutive singles, but Hector Ambriz got Alfredo Amezaga to pop out on the infield, and Matt Tolbert ended the threat with a flyout to centerfield.

The score could have been even higher than it was, as OKC went just 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base. Iowa was equally bad, leaving nine runners on base and going just 4-13 with runners in scoring position.

The two teams are back at it at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night for the second game of a three-game set.
