OKLAHOMA CITY -

A 13-month-old boy drowned June 19 in a bathtub after his mother accidentally locked herself out of a northwest Oklahoma City home.

Oklahoma City Police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said the woman was bathing little Jose Medina at a home in the 3100 block of N.W. 48th Street. She briefly left the house to take out the trash, and accidentally locked herself out.

Police said the woman broke a window to get back inside, and found her son face down in the tub.

She immediately dialed 911. Jose was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the drowning appears to be a tragic accident.
