TULSA, Oklahoma -

Abduction survivor Elizabeth Smart will share her story at a Women of Character speaker series in Tulsa. The event will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, August 10 at the University of Tulsa's Reynolds Center.

Smart was 14 when she was abducted from her family home in 2002. She was held prisoner for nine months before being rescued. She founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to help children avoid and recover from traumatic events.

Girl Scouts of America is bringing Smart to town to "educate and inspire people of all ages," according to a news release from the organization.

"We're excited to welcome Elizabeth Smart as a woman of character and a role model who teaches girls to believe in themselves and make a difference," said Roberta Preston, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma.

Tickets are $25 and are available in advance or at the door. For more information about purchasing tickets, call 918-745-5201 or register online at GirlScoutsEastOK.org.
