A woman from Castle, Oklahoma, was killed after she was hit by a car on State Highway 48 in Okfuskee County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

It happened early Saturday morning on State Highway 48, about three miles north of Castle in Okfuskee County. Troopers say 67-year-old Lois Gauze was walking southbound in the middle of the highway when she was struck by a 1992 Buick Le Sabre driven by Jesse Ramsey.

Ramsey was unable to see Gauze because it was dark outside, according to the OHP collision report.

Gauze was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramsey, 59, was not injured in the crash.
